Creating Pattern in Workspace / Workdesk

The Pattern command can be applied to connectors, connectable objects, terminals, parts, housings, backshells, leading parts, grommets, and clips.

An entire pattern node can be rotated, moved, or deleted in the workspace / workdesk working window, but individual objects of the pattern can not be moved, rotated, deleted, or replaced.

Patterned objects, including the original object, are nested in the workspace / workdesk tree view under their corresponding nodes. If, e.g., a connector is patterned, the connectors are nested under the Connectable objects > Pattern tree view node.

Note:

Already patterned objects may not be patterned again.

Prerequisite:

You have selected the objects to be patterned in the workspace / workdesk working window.

  1. Select the Tools > Pattern menu items or the button on the main toolbar.
  2. Then, in the General settings section of the command bar, decide whether any mandatory attached parts are to be included in the pattern (Mandatory check box) and / or whether any optional attached parts are to be included in the pattern (Optional check box).
  3. In the Coordinates section of the command bar, determine the coordinates as well as the offset for the placement of the copies. Negative values can also be entered to create a pattern in the opposite direction.
  4. In the Number field, determine the number of copies in each axis direction.
  5. In the Naming pattern section determine the prefix, the name separator and the starting number for the suffix of the pattern name. The suffix is automatically numbered when the pattern is created.

As you determine the settings in the command bar, the preview is updated in the workspace / workdesk working window.
  6. If necessary rotate the pattern by dragging the rotation handler.
  7. Click [OK].

The pattern is created in the working window.

A pattern node is created below the corresponding node in the workspace / workdesk tree view, including the original object.
