Importing Windows Users

In medium-sized or large organizations the users are often managed by using Active Directory groups. Every user logs in at their workstation by using their Active Directory account (Windows user name and password).

You can import these Windows users and groups from Active Directory in the EPLAN rights management. If such a user has been configured in the EPLAN rights management, he is logged on automatically in EPLAN, and the program is available to the configured functional scope.

It is mandatory for the Log on with Windows user name working mode to be used so that the users imported from Windows can be logged on in EPLAN.

Rights configuration

Managing EPLAN groups and users in Active Directory

You can enter and configure both the individual EPLAN users and the EPLAN groups directly in Active Directory. You then only have to import the Active Directory groups into the EPLAN rights management. Note that the imported Active Directory groups are displayed and administrated as users in the rights management. Detailed assignment of the EPLAN rights is carried out by assigning one or more EPLAN groups to each Active Directory group. All the members of this Active Directory group receive the corresponding rights without a separate user having to be created and edited for each group member. Changes in the composition of the group only have to be carried out in Active Directory.

If a user is a member in several Active Directory groups, they receive all the rights that are assigned to these groups when they log on in EPLAN.

Managing only EPLAN uses in Active Directory

If you do not want to manage the EPLAN groups in Active Directory, you have to import the individual Windows users from Active Directory into the EPLAN rights management. You subsequently assign the Windows users to the EPLAN groups in the rights management. New and deleted users then have to be maintained in the Active Directory as well as in the rights management.
