Creating Ellipses

An ellipse is a closed, symmetrical, oval-shaped curve. An ellipse by radius is defined by its center and radius. To create an ellipse by radius, you can use the mouse and the keyboard. Both techniques can be combined.

Using the mouse

  1. Click the Create ellipse button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the first point (center of the major axis) by clicking on the desired location in the 2D working window.
  3. Determine the second point (end point of the major axis) in the same way.
  4. Finish creating the ellipse by moving the mouse, thereby defining the minor axis, and clicking a third time.
  5. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Create ellipse button again, if desired.

Using the command bar

  1. Click the Create ellipse button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the X and Y coordinates of the first point (center of the major axis) in the command bar and confirm with [OK].
  3. Determine the second point (end point of the major axis) in the same way or switch to the Distance command in the command bar and determine the Length and Angle values of the major axis.
  4. Determine the length of the minor half-axis.
  5. Click [OK] to complete the ellipse.
  6. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Create ellipse button again, if desired.
