Creating New Library

An existing library is a necessary prerequisite for the definition of parts in the EPLAN Harness proD Library application. When creating a library, you first have to select the library type.

"File system libraries" are stored as files and do not require any special software installed. They are useful if the number of items does not exceed 1,000. In the case of more extensive libraries, there may be increased demands on system memory. Categories containing more items may be displayed more slowly in the Parts list.

"Microsoft SQL server libraries" are databases and require the Microsoft SQL Server to be installed on your local network. Using this type of library may be a little bit slower for smaller libraries, but its performance is nearly independent on library content.

Create a new file system library

  1. Select the Library > New library menu items.
  2. Select the File system library entry as library provider and click [Next].
  3. Click on the [...] button of the Library path field to navigate to the directory where the library is to be stored.
  4. Into the Name field, enter the library title which is displayed internally in EPLAN Harness proD Library and Studio.
  5. In the Data path field determine the folder where the parts data for the library is to be stored.
  6. In the fields below determine and retype a password if you want to have your new library password-protected.
  7. Click [Finish].

Create a new Microsoft SQL library

  5. Click [Finish].
  6. To connect to the database, enter your user name and the password which was assigned when the database was created on the server into the appropriate fields.
  7. If you do not want the EPLAN Harness proD Library to check this information on each start, activate the Remember password check box.
  8. Optionally, activate the Windows authentication check box.
  9. Click [OK].
