Creating Patterns

The Pattern command can be applied to 3D geometry, pins, and also to groups. Since connectable objects (connectors, connectable objects, terminals) can have only one grouped pin, grouped pins may not be patterned. If a group is patterned, the group and all its members are patterned and group nodes are created in the 3D window tree view. Multiple objects can be patterned if they are selected.

  1. Select the Tools > Edit > Pattern menu items or the button on the toolbar.
  2. Then, in the Coordinates field in the command bar, determine the offset of the copies from each other in the axes. Negative values can also be entered to create a pattern in the opposite direction.
  3. In the Odd row offset field, determine the offset of odd rows in the pattern.
  4. In the Number field, determine the number of copies in each axis direction.
  5. In the Naming pattern group box, determine the name prefix and name separator of the copies in the corresponding fields.
  6. In the Starting index field, determine the starting number of the name suffix of the copies. The suffix is automatically numbered when a pattern is created.

As you enter the number of copies, offset, etc., the preview in the 3D window is updated.
  7. Rotate the pattern, if desired, by dragging the rotation handler.
  8. Click [OK].

The patterned objects are created in the working window and added to the 3D window tree view.
