Routing Path Segments

The Route path segment command is used to route path segments through target objects.

Source objects are all objects which can be pulled through target objects. These include wires, rapid prototype wires, cables, empty cables, rapid prototype cables, bundles, surface protections, looms, wrap tapes, and flexible tubing. The target objects include bundles and all types of surface protections.

If a target object has several segments, the Route path segment function will pull the source object through the two end points of the selected segment.

Note:

It is not possible to pull source objects through control points.

The Route path segment function is a "one-step" function: it pulls the selected source path segment (part of a path of a wire / bundle / cable / etc.) through one segment of a selected target object.

The command can be repeated to add the same or another path segment to another target object or to another segment of the same target object. To route a source object through more than one target object, use the Manual route function.

If there are any control points (or labels or cable ties) on the source objects before you add them to a target object, they will not be lost after the objects are routed.

You can add a path segment both to an empty and to a partially-filled target object.

  1. Select the Tools > Route path segment menu items or the button on the toolbar.
  2. Select a source path segment which is to be added to a target object by clicking on a segment between two control points (highlighted by a movable highlight point) or by selecting an existing control point. Such a control point is highlighted while moving the mouse over it.
  3. Select the target object by clicking.

The source path segment is pulled through the target object.
  4. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Route path segment button again, if desired.
