An existing library is a necessary prerequisite for the definition of parts in the EPLAN Harness proD Library application. When creating a library, you first have to select the library type.
"File system libraries" are stored as files and do not require any special software installed. They are useful if the number of items does not exceed 1,000. In the case of more extensive libraries, there may be increased demands on system memory. Categories containing more items may be displayed more slowly in the Parts list.
"Microsoft SQL server libraries" are databases and require the Microsoft SQL Server to be installed on your local network. Using this type of library may be a little bit slower for smaller libraries, but its performance is nearly independent on library content.
Create a new file system library
- Select the Library > New library menu items.
- Select the File system library entry as library provider and click [Next].
- Click on the [...] button of the Library path field to navigate to the directory where the library is to be stored.
- Into the Name field, enter the library title which is displayed internally in EPLAN Harness proD Library and Studio.
- In the Data path field determine the folder where the parts data for the library is to be stored.
- In the fields below determine and retype a password if you want to have your new library password-protected.
- Click [Finish].
Create a new Microsoft SQL library
Prerequisite:
You have a database created on your Microsoft SQL server. Please refer to the appropriate user manual.
- Select the Library > New library menu items.
- Select the MS SQL Server Library entry as library provider and click [Next].
- Into the Server field, enter the name or IP address of the server where Microsoft SQL Server is running.
- Into the Database field, enter the name of the new library.
- Click [Finish].
- To connect to the database, enter your user name and the password which was assigned when the database was created on the server into the appropriate fields.
- If you do not want the EPLAN Harness proD Library to check this information on each start, activate the Remember password check box.
- Optionally, activate the Windows authentication check box.
- Click [OK].
Notes:
- For EPLAN Harness proD to work correctly with Microsoft SQL Server, make sure to have all these roles: db_ddladmin, db_datareader, db_datawriter.
- For proper functioning, server authentication should be set to "mixed mode" (Windows and SQL server authentication).
- EPLAN Harness proD Library itself cannot create a database. To create a library, a database must already exist.
- The database user who logs onto a database must have privileges for creating tables.
- If there is a named instance of an SQL server it is necessary to use a full name (SERVER\INSTANCE) to connect it.
- If only TCP/IP access is available and the user cannot log on, it is also possible to connect to the particular port. The server must then be specified in the following form: SERVER\INSTANCE, PORT. The default value for Microsoft SQL Server is "1433".
- Launching the SQL Server Agent can help in case of connection problems.
- If you are using "named pipes" for connecting to an SQL server, you must have an established connection to the target computer, i.e., login name and password must be stored in your operating system.
- Whether Windows authentication is applicable you should find out from your system administrator.
