Adding Cable Unit

A cable unit is an arrangement of wires, cables, cable ties, labels, etc. used to interconnect an electric circuit. Most EPLAN Harness proD components can be included in a cable unit.

A new cable unit is added below the Wire harnesses / cable units node in the workspace / workdesk. If an existing cable unit is selected, its content is shown in the properties panel, with the following properties available for modification: Part number, ERP number, Name, Description, and User-defined properties.

The cable unit content tree view of the Properties panel contains the hierarchical structure of nodes with objects. If, for instance, a cable is routed through the bundle and the bundle is added to the cable unit, the cable is shown below the bundle node and vice versa. Although the same objects may be added to the cable unit, the structure of the cable unit content tree view can be different depending on the sequence in which the objects have been added to the cable unit.

Note:

The quantity of cable units depends on the part number regardless of other properties such as ERP number, Name, etc. The properties are set in the workspace / workdesk.

A cable unit is not a physical object (i.e., it is not displayed in the bill of materials, you cannot buy it or work with it in "real life"). Cable drawings are created on the basis of cable units.

  1. Select the Insert > Add new cable unit menu items or the button on the toolbar.

    The command bar is activated.
  2. Select the object to be included in the cable unit by left-clicking. To select multiple objects left-click the objects while pressing down the [Shift] key.
  3. Note:

You can also create an empty cable unit by simply not selecting any objects and just clicking [OK]. You may then add objects to the cable unit later.

  4. Click the (Add to cable unit) button in the command bar.

The objects are added to the cable unit content.
  5. Note:

In addition, objects related to the selected objects become available in the cable unit content of the command bar. In the case of a cable, the corresponding objects can be the connectable objects to which the cable is connected, labels, cable ties, and surface protections through which the cable is routed.

  6. To remove unwanted objects from the cable unit, select the object in the cable unit content of the command bar and click the (Remove from cable unit) button.

The object is then no longer available in the cable unit content and thus not part of the cable unit any more.
  7. You can toggle objects to be included in the cable unit or be excluded from it by activating / deactivating the corresponding check boxes in the cable unit content of the command bar.
  8. Optionally click the (Select all) / (Deselect all) buttons to toggle selection of all the objects at once.
  9. Click [OK].

The cable unit is generated in the tree view below the Wire harnesses / cable units node.
