Assigning Layers

The Layers navigation panel section serves to manage layers. Layers allow you to work on some part of the nailboard / cable drawing without influencing the others. Typically, you will assign objects of the same type to one layer. Every layer can then be set as visible / invisible or selectable / non-selectable. This feature makes working with multiple objects much easier.

Note:

Objects in higher layers can overlap objects in lower layers.

Objects can be assigned to layers in the following ways:

All the available layers are listed in the Layers section. For each individual layer you can determine its Visible and Selectable status. You can also determine a default layer to which newly placed objects are assigned when no "association by type" has been determined (see below).

  1. Select the Tools > Layer management menu items or the (Start layer management) button in the Layers panel.

The Layer management dialog is opened.
  2. Click (Add new layer) to add a new layer.

A new line is appended to the list of available layers.
  3. Click (Remove) to remove the selected layer.
  4. Double-click on the name of a certain layer in the Name column to overwrite the default name.
  5. Click (Default) to set the currently selected layer as default layer.
  6. Click (Types) to define the object type associations.

The Layer: <Layer name> dialog is opened for you to select the object types which will automatically be assigned to this layer when an object is newly placed or created, after deriving a new nailboard / cable drawing from a template, and after use of the Sort command.
  7. Click (Bring one level forward) or (Send one level backward) to bring the selected layer one level forward or backward respectively.
