Creating Tubes

A tube is a hollow cylinder. To create a tube, you can use the mouse and the keyboard. Both techniques can be combined.

Note:

When placing objects, you can choose to place them freely, on a key point, anywhere on a particular surface, or anywhere on a particular plane. You can also combine these options, e.g. you can choose to place an object on a particular plane and then on a particular key point on that plane. Just use the corresponding button or shortcut. See Construction aids for details.

Using the mouse

  1. Click the Create tube button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the center of the tube by clicking on the desired location in the 3D working window.
  3. Determine the second point (the inner radius), the third point (the outer radius), and the fourth point (the length of the tube) in the same way.
  4. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Create tube button again, if desired.

Using command bar and mouse

  1. Click the Create tube button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the X and Y (and Z) coordinates of the first point (the center) in the command bar and confirm with [OK].
  3. Determine the inner radius by entering a value or clicking on a desired location.
  4. Determine the outer radius, also by entering a value or clicking.
  5. Determine the third point (height) in the same way and use the mouse to determine the orientation of the tube.
  6. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Create tube button again, if desired.

Properties

Existing tubes can be edited in the properties panel. The properties common to all 3D objects are described in the 3D Object Properties section of this help file.
