Fixed Length

The fixed length can be applied to cables, wires, bundles, and surface protections. By default, length annotations are shown within paths which have the fixed length determined in the workspace / workdesk environment. The associated objects can be control points of a cable, connectors, leading parts through which the cable is routed, control points of a bundle through which the cable is routed, etc.

The length annotation shows the name of the path and the Length / Required length properties. The Length property represents the total length, including global extra length, fixed extra length of connector, connectable object, and terminal, embedded length of special component, rounding value, etc. By default, length annotations are shown for paths that are moved or rotated and that have the Fixed length option activated.

Also by default, the mouse is snapped to the required length, including the absolute / relative tolerance, with the distance at which the mouse is snapped depending on the tolerance. Once the mouse is snapped, smooth movement is possible into a direction in which the required length becomes more precise. Otherwise, in order to move it again, you have to move the mouse a small distance, and once you are past the snap zone, you can move the mouse again.

Default visibility of length annotations, mouse snapping, and other properties can be defined in the Settings > Workspace / Workdesk > Length calculation menu items.

Prerequisite:

You have opened a workspace / workdesk window.

  1. Select the desired cable, wire, bundle, or surface protection.
  2. Activate the Fixed length check box in the properties panel.
  3. Enter a value into the Required length field.
  4. Activate the Customized tolerance check box in the properties panel if you want to enter a value different than the default one.
  5. Use the Move / Rotate command.

The length annotations are shown according to the default settings.
  6. Move the object to reach the required length.

Depending on the settings, the mouse is / is not snapped.

Note:

In the Tasks list, you can carry out a Fixed length check which also checks whether the current length is within the defined tolerance of the required length.
