Creating Tables

A table can be placed anywhere in the 2D window. To create a table, proceed as follows:

  1. Click the Table button on the toolbar.

The Table settings dialog is opened.
  2. Activate the Use title check box to add a title which will be displayed directly above the table.
  3. Activate the Use note check box to add a note which will be displayed directly below the table.
  4. Activate the Use header check box to add a header which is text displayed in the first row of the table and is determined for each column separately. If you want to use a header, the first row of the table will be formatted with a thick border around it.
  5. Activate the AutoSize text check box if the height of the entered text is to be checked whether it fits inside the individual cells. By unchecking this option, the values from the Font group boxes will be used. This option controls the height of the text in the whole table and you can switch it on or off as you like. It does not, however, affect how text is displayed in the Table settings dialog, only in the 2D working window after clicking [OK].
  6. In the No. of columns and No. of rows fields you determine the number of columns / rows in the table respectively (enter a number via keyboard or use the up and down arrows to change the values in these fields).
  7. In the Title field enter the text to be displayed directly above the table (this field is only accessible if the Use title check box above has been activated).
  8. In the <Table editor> you can enter text into individual cells, including the headers. Just double-click on a cell and type.
  9. In the Note field enter the text to be displayed directly below the table (this field is only accessible if the Use note check box above has been activated).
  10. Activate the Numeric sorting check box if sorting of the values in the columns is to be numeric; if unchecked, sorting is alphabetical.
  11. Click on the Import from file button to open the table content import wizard with which you can import text from a .txt, a .csv, or an .xml file. In the first dialog of the wizard, select the source file. Clicking [Next] will bring you to another dialog where you can select the separators which will be used to split the text into individual columns. A user-defined separator can be determined after checking the Other separator check box. Ignore lines starting with ignores lines which begin with (a) user-defined character(s). The Columns and Rows fields let you select the extent of the imported data (e.g. you can import only columns 5-10 and rows 7-11 from a certain document). Clicking [Finish] will exit the wizard and fill the table with the data from the imported file you specified.
  12. Use the <Font options> group boxes to modify the appearance of the font of the different sections of the table (title, header, content, note) and the formatting of border lines and inner lines.
  13. Clicking [OK] will return you to the 2D working window where you can place the table by clicking on where you want its top left-hand corner to be. Next, click on where you want the bottom right-hand corner to be.

The table is created and filled with the values and settings you specified earlier.

Note:

The table position (upper left-hand and bottom right-hand corner) can also be determined in the command bar.

Properties

Existing tables can be edited in the properties panel. Advanced table properties are described in the Advanced Section in Properties Panel. Properties common to all 2D objects are described in the 2D Properties Panel section of this help file.

Note:

Tables can also be moved with the pointer. See 2D Object Control Commands for details.
