Creating New Project

To design a wire harness and the corresponding outputs and documents such as nailboards, cable drawings, and reports it is necessary to create a new project first.

Note:

It is only possible to create a new project when there is none currently opened. An opened project can be closed via the File > Close project menu items or the button on the main toolbar.

Prerequisite:

There is no opened project.

  1. Select the File > New project menu items or the button on the toolbar to launch the New project wizard.

The New project dialog is opened.
  2. In the first step of this wizard specify the project's Name and Location properties and click [Next].

The Project folder property is set automatically to the following entry:
    <Location entry>\<Name entry>.
  3. In the next step determine the Number of variants for the project and assign names, if desired.

    Note:

Variant names can be further edited in the Project structure tab.

  4. Click [Next].
  5. The next step of the wizard allows you to determine a default library for the project: Activate the Set default project library check box and use the [...] button to browse to the required library connection (*.hxcn file).

Once you have determined a default library or deactivated the check box, the [Finish] button will become accessible.

    Note:

If you haven't created a connection up to this point, you should deactivate the Set default project library check box and finish project creation. You can create a connection and assign a library later in the project's General info panel.

  6. Click [Finish] to complete creating the project.

Create project from template

  1. In the New project group box of the Welcome tab select a template (*.hxpt) file or, if the list is empty, use the Browse command to browse to the location containing the templates.
  2. Click the New project from template command to launch the New project wizard.
  3. In the first step of this wizard specify the project's Name and Location properties and click [Next].

The Project folder property is set automatically to the following entry:
    <Location entry>\<Name entry>.
  4. Click [Finish] to complete creating the project.
