Importing 3D Macros from Parts in EPLAN Platform

Prerequisites:

Opening such part in EPLAN Harness proD Library common database will also import its 3D geometry. The geometry will appear in the part's 3D window as a step file. The import takes place automatically the first time the part is either edited in EPLAN Harness proD Library or when it is placed into a workspace / workdesk in EPLAN Harness proD Studio - the 3D geometry is also saved to the part in EPLAN Harness proD Library.

Note:

Importing 3D geometries from graphical macros requires an up-to-date version of the EPLAN Electric P8, EPLAN Pro Panel or EPLAN Fluid installed on the computer with a valid license. For the 3D macro to be imported the EPLAN Harness proD Extensions license is required.

Updating 3D geometry

Once the 3D macro has been imported to EPLAN Harness proD, changes to the graphical macro in the EPLAN Platform will not automatically override it. To manually re-import the 3D geometry to EPLAN Harness proD, navigate to the 3D window and select the Tools > Import 3D macro from EPLAN menu items.

Connection point pattern

Ideally the imported part should also contain a connection point pattern, which tells EPLAN Harness proD where to place the pins onto the 3D graphical model. If a connection point pattern is absent, pins are arranged into a default pattern around the coordinate origin in the part's 3D window.

Connection point pattern positions are defined with respect to the handle of the part. This handle is often not located at the origin of the part's global coordinate system. This is corrected for in EPLAN Harness proD which means that after importing the 3D macro the pins may have different coordinates than defined in the original connection point pattern.
