New Settings for P&I Diagrams

Several new features and some new settings have been implemented for the P&I diagrams in the pre-planning of this version. All settings for the P&I diagram have now been combined in the new Settings: P&I diagram dialog.
In the context of these new features the settings for coloring components and pipings in the P&I diagram (Color components and pipings in P&I diagram group box, etc.) have been moved from the settings dialog for the pre-planning Settings: General into the new settings dialog for the P&I diagram.

Display gaps for connection junctions

If pipings cross in the P&I diagram, these pipings are displayed with interruptions in accordance with the standard EN ISO 10628-1:2015-04. The connection junctions of the corresponding autoconnecting lines can now be displayed automatically with gaps on the P&I diagram pages. To this purpose, the new Display gaps for connection junctions setting is available in the project-specific settings for the pre-planning (command path: File > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Pre-planning > P&I diagram).

Benefit:

The new Display gaps for connection junctions setting allows automatic, norm-compliant graphical display of connection junctions in the P&I diagram and thus reduces the manual work and possible sources of error in the project.

If this check box is selected, gaps for connection junctions are automatically displayed on P&I diagram pages. The representation of piping junctions with interrupted lines corresponds to the recommendations of EN ISO 10628-1:2015-04.

  • If pipings of the same line width that are not connected with each other cross, the vertical piping is interrupted.
  • If pipings of different line widths that are not connected with each other cross, the thinner piping is interrupted.

If the check box is deactivated, no gaps are displayed for connection junctions. In this case you can insert special connection symbols for connection crossings with gaps - as in the past.

Activate piping-oriented connection logic for the P&I diagram

In the past the connections in the P&I diagram were sorted according to the device tags. This could result in contradictory flow directions for the pipings, which had to be arranged subsequently.

By means of the so-called "piping-oriented connection logic" it is now possible to generate a uniform flow direction already during the editing of the P&I diagram for pipings. To this purpose, the new Piping-oriented connection logic check box is available in the Settings: P&I diagram dialog.

Benefit:

The piping-oriented connection logic already ensures a uniform flow direction of the piping during the editing of the P&I diagram. This saves you the time and effort of subsequently aligning the connections via the Edit piping route command - and thus avoids possible errors.

If this check box is activated, the connections of all pipings in the P&I diagram are automatically arranged in one direction during the connection update. In addition, direction arrows can also be displayed automatically in the P&I diagram. The corresponding settings are defined in the Direction arrows in P&I diagram group box. When inserting symbols (pumps, fans, etc.), an automatic alignment of symbols is also possible during placement on the piping in accordance with the piping direction.

If the check box is deactivated, the connections are sorted by the device tags by default. This can result in contradictory flow directions for the pipings. In this case no automatic direction arrows are drawn. Correspondingly, settings in the Direction arrows in P&I diagram group box are not possible. When inserting symbols on a piping, an automatic alignment in accordance with the piping direction is also not possible.
A deactivation of the check box only makes sense for old projects.

New check run for contradictory direction definitions in the piping

Despite activated piping-oriented connection logic, contradictory direction definitions can occur for pipings. This is, for example, the case when direction-defining functions (for example pumps) point in opposite directions or manual adjustments to the flow directions were made for a piping definition point via the Piping: Exchange source and target property. The new check run "005095" is available in the "Connections" message class to determine such cases during the configuration of pipings.

Automatic display of direction arrows

Previously, you had to insert specific special symbols (for example AR1, AR2) manually in order to display the flow direction in a P&I diagram. Now you can have the flow direction displayed by means of automatically inserted direction arrows. To this purpose, you have to activate the new Piping-oriented connection logic check box in the Settings: P&I diagram dialog. Subsequently you can carry out several settings for the direction arrows in the Direction arrows in P&I diagram group box:

  • By activating the Automatically display direction arrows check box you specify that direction arrows are automatically displayed at the beginning and/or end of autoconnecting lines in the P&I diagram. Direction arrows are furthermore displayed wherever the piping is forwarded in the diagram (for example before or after angles, junctions, connection splicers, etc.).
  • The graphic of the direction arrows is defined via the information about the symbol in the Number / Name field.
  • Use the Placement of direction arrows drop-down list to specify whether the direction arrows are displayed at the beginning and/or end of an autoconnecting line.
  • Use the Minimum distance between direction arrows field to enter the desired minimum distance between two consecutive automatic direction arrows on an autoconnecting line. If the distance is lower than the minimum distance, the direction arrows at angles or junctions are preferably no longer displayed.
