Entering Coordinates when Drawing

While drawing graphical elements or inserting symbols, you have the option of entering coordinates for starting and end points or for the insertion point. For this, you can use absolute or relative coordinate entry.

You can either specify the starting and end points using coordinate input, or you can determine the starting point manually and only use coordinate input for the end point. Coordinate input can also be combined with entry via the input box. Please do, however, note that the input box always uses the graphical coordinate system, independent of the coordinate system of the corresponding project page.

The input is described here with the example of a line; in the same way, however, you can also draw polylines, rectangles, circles, etc.

When inserting symbols, coordinate input is only necessary for the insertion point.

Precondition:

You have opened a page, form, plot frame or symbol.

Enter absolute coordinates

  1. Select the menu item Insert > Graphic > Line.
  2. Select the menu item Options > Coordinate input.
  3. In the Coordinate input dialog, the current cursor position is displayed. Enter the coordinates of the starting point.
  4. Click [OK].

The cursor is placed on the specified coordinate value.
  5. Select the menu item Options > Coordinate input again.
  6. Enter the coordinates of the end point in the Coordinate input dialog.
  7. Click [OK].

The line is drawn up to the specified point.

Enter relative coordinates

  1. Select the menu item Insert > Graphic > Line.
  2. Determine the starting point manually, and press [Enter]. Or determine the starting point using absolute coordinate input (Options > Coordinate input).
  3. Select the menu item Options > Relative coordinate input.
  4. In the Relative coordinate input dialog, you can specify the position of the end point. You have two options here: Either use the Distance field to enter the amount by which the end point should be offset from the coordinates of the starting point, in the X and Y directions. Or you can give an angle and the length of the line. (For a rectangle, enter the length of the rectangle's diagonals.)
  5. Click [OK].

The line is drawn up to the specified point.

Note:

If you want to specify one point relative to another in mm, with relative coordinate input on the Graphical pages, it is not the entered millimeters that are considered for the active grid, but an approximately matching step performed along the grid.
