Process engineering involves performing all the technical and commercial processes where materials are modified according to type, property, and composition. The mechanical process engineering area is especially dedicated to material modification processes relating to mechanical action. The four main process groups are fragmentation, agglomeration, mixing and separation (filter, strainers). In contrast to this is thermal process engineering, whose most important processes are distillation, extraction, and absorption, which can also be described using the same methods.
