Inserting Dimension via Center between Two Points

When inserting dimensioning, it is possible, by clicking any two points – including of different graphical objects (lines, polygons, etc.) – to determine the point which lies on the center of the imagined connection line between the identified points. A point thus determined then serves as the start or end point of dimensioning. The center can be calculated for all dimensioning, except for the radius dimension. A sensible field of application for this functionality can be found wherever there is no real point that can be snapped.

  1. In the menu select a dimensioning type, for example Insert > Dimensioning > Linear dimension.
  2. Hold down the [Ctrl] key and enter the first measuring point.

By pressing the [Ctrl] key, you start the calculation of the center between two points when entering measuring points. In the graphical editor, this becomes visible by a change in color for the auxiliary line on the cursor.
  3. Then, for example, use the mouse to set the end point for the calculation of the center.

The calculated point is used as a starting point for dimensioning.
  4. Then, enter the second measuring point for dimensioning. If this is also to draw upon the center of a line / graphical object, again press the [Ctrl] key to determine this point by two mouse-clicks.

The dimensioning is inserted between the calculated center and the second measuring point.
  5. End the action via the Cancel action popup menu item or via the [Esc] button.
