Structure Boxes: Basics

In contrast to black boxes, structure boxes do not adopt a DT from the left or above. Additionally, a device can only assume the structure identifier from a structure box if it is within the structure box. The decision, as to whether a component is within the box or not, is based on the insertion point. Several boxes can be nested within each other, and the insertion point is also the deciding factor here.

Structure box properties

Structure boxes draw a distinction between identifying and descriptive properties. The identifying properties include all properties in the project hierarchy, like Higher-level function, Mounting location, Installation site, etc., while the descriptive properties might include technical characteristics, supplementary fields, function and engraving text.

In contrast to black boxes, structure boxes have no part data.

Structure boxes are not devices, but can be made cross-reference capable using the Main placement property. Cross-references are formed when all structure boxes have the same DT and only one of them is the main placement. To make cross-references visible in the schematic, the display property Cross-reference (main / aux. function) must be selected at all structure boxes.

You can use the Go to (counterpiece) popup menu option to jump to the main placement. Go to (all representation types) and Go to (cross-referenced) will add all structure boxes with the same complete name to the Go to list and open the list.

Note:

If the scale is changed on schematic pages, the property texts for the structure boxes are visually modified (scaled) in exactly the same way as for other components.
However, a change in the scale does not affect the property texts of the boxes on pages of the type "Panel layout": The corresponding texts remain optically unchanged.
