Dialog Synchronization of master data - <Project name>

In this dialog you define which data is to be synchronized in which direction. Please note that the master data (e.g., a symbol library) is not referenced but stored in the project, i.e., copied into the project. Any master data used is also saved in the Project. Depending the project settings (File > Settings > Projects > "Project name") under Management > General, Management > Symbol libraries and Reports > Output to pages you can, if required, start the synchronization of project-specific master data with the system-specific data manually.

Overview of the main dialog elements:

Project master data:

The list of master data used in the project contains the following entries:

  • Status: Status information such as (e.g.) "Newer" or "Identical"
  • Name: File name of the master data object, without file extension
  • Type: Master data type (symbol library, form for title page, plot frame, etc.)
  • Modification date: Date of the last change to master data in the project.

The entries are alphanumerically sorted by columns, with standard sorting being by the Name entry; if you click the Type column header, then all entries are displayed sorted by master data type.

Directories:

You can select various directories for master data synchronization from this drop-down list. To be able to do this, you must first have saved these directory settings as a scheme. This may be useful if you are using different master data directories for different companies / customers. Click [...], to open the Settings: Directories dialog and create a new scheme for the directories.

System master data:

The list of system master data contains the following entries:

  • Status: Status information such as (e.g.) "Not stored in the project" or "Identical"
  • Name: File name of the master data object, without file extension
  • Type: Master data type (symbol library, form for title page, plot frame, etc.)
  • Modification date: Date of the last change to the master data object in the respective editor (form editor, symbol editor, plot frame editor ...).

Sorting corresponds to that under Project master data.

Arrow buttons:

Use the arrow buttons to store individual master data in the project or to adopt individual project master data in the system master data. Multiple selection is possible in both lists.

In both actions, EPLAN informs you in a message window as to how many project / system master data values were updated and, if the project / system master data were identical, in which case a message is also generated.

Filter:

This drop-down list displays all the available filters. A chosen filter is activated automatically. The entry "- Not activated -" deactivates the filter and causes an unfiltered display of the data.

  • Show differences: Select this filter to show only differing data in both the project and system master data, regardless of which data is older or newer.
  • Project master data: Select this filter to show only the project master data that is older than the corresponding system master data.
  • System master data: Select this filter to show only the system master data that is older than the corresponding project master data.

[Update]:

Menu item

Meaning

Project

Replaces outdated project master data with newer system master data.

System

Replaces outdated system master data with newer project master data.

Compressed symbol libraries in the project

Replaces compressed symbol libraries in the project master data by symbol libraries from the system master data.

Notes:

  • If the update would result in a newer version of the master data being replaced with an older one (identified by the entry under Modification date), then a message is generated and you can still cancel the update.
  • The master data comparison is not case-sensitive with regard to file names. The file name ABC.XYZ is identical to abc.xyz.
  • When updating Symbol libraries the files in question are checked for compatibility (e.g., regarding connection point designations). If they are not compatible, the process will be interrupted with a prompt.
