Aligning the X-Axis / Y-Axis of Mounting Surfaces

Any surface on a component can be defined as a mounting surface by means of the Mounting surface command. The reference point of this surface is usually on the bottom left. When surfaces are not perpendicular, the mounting surface also has to form a surrounding rectangle with a reference point on the bottom left.

Note:

Prior to creating mounting surfaces, you have to rotate the object into the correct position.

If - because the item has special shapes - the automatic alignment of the mounting surface fails, the Adjust X-axis and Adjust Y-axis functionalities can be used to correct the situation.

Preconditions:

  • You have opened a project.
  • You have opened the layout space navigator and a layout space.
  • You have defined surfaces of an item as mounting surfaces.
  1. Select a mounting surface of an item in the navigator.
  2. Select the popup menu items Mounting surface > Adjust X-axis or Adjust Y-axis in the layout space navigator.
  3. Click the starting point to specify the direction in which the axis is to be aligned.

When the cursor is moved over the mounting surface, geometric points appear.
  4. Click the end point as the second point to specify the direction in which the axis is to be aligned.

The X-axis or the Y-axis of the mounting surface is aligned by the direction of the connection from start and end point.

The reference point of the mounting surface is moved in such a way that it lies on the bottom left point of the mounting surface. The mounting surface is then activated so that the change becomes directly visible.

If the selected points are not on the current mounting surface, the two points are projected onto the mounting surface and then the X- or Y-axis is aligned.
