Additional Representation Types for Pair Cross-references

Cross-references to representations of a device on different page types cannot be displayed completely by means of pair cross-references. The following additional representation types are now available to allow such cross-references for functions with specific representation types:

  • Additional representation: Multi-line schematic
  • Additional representation: Fluid power schematic
  • Additional representation: P&I diagram

These additional representation types are used, for example, to place an item placed in the multi-line schematic once more on another page ("P&I diagram" or "Fluid power schematic"). This works similarly to a further "pair cross-reference", but there are some differences both in the cross-reference display and in the logic.

Benefit:

The additional representation types can be used to display cross-references between different page types. This is particularly useful during pre-planning in order, for example, to display the position contacts of the cylinders associated with a process control valve as cross-references on the different page types ("Schematic multi-line", "P&I diagram", "Fluid power schematic").

Display of additional cross-references

In contrast to the "normal" pair cross-reference, the additional representation types must always be activated in the project settings in order for them to be displayed (command path: Projects > "Project name" > Cross-references / contact image > Display).

To this purpose, three new columns have been added to the Display device cross-references table in the Settings: Display dialog. Here you define the other representation types for which cross-references are to be displayed. To this purpose, a drop-down list is available in the table cells.

If the additional representation types are activated, they only display a "Pair cross-reference" to a function if there is an exact counterpiece (same function definition + connection point designations). If no exact counterpiece exists, no cross-reference is displayed. The cross-referenced function must have one of the representation types "Multi-line", "Fluid multi-line", "Single-line", "P&I diagram", "Fluid function overview".

If a function with a different representation type is referenced (e.g., "Overview"), a device cross-reference is displayed.

Prefix for cross-references

For the additional representations, you can specify a prefix in the form of any character or character string to distinguish them, just as with the other cross-reference types. To this purpose, corresponding new entries for the additional representation types are available in the general settings dialog for the cross-references / contact image in the Page type / prefix table (command path: File > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Cross-references / contact image > General).

Global editing

The additional representations can be edited globally. These representation types are taken into consideration directly after the pair cross-reference in the editing sequence.

Color setting for the display in the graphical editor

You can assign a separate color to symbols to which a function with one of the new additional representation types has been assigned (for example Additional representation: Multi-line schematic) for the display in the graphical editor. To this purpose, the new Additional representations setting is available in the user-specific color settings in the Settings: 2D dialog (command path: File > Settings > User > Graphical editing > 2D). By default the same color is set here as for symbols with the "Pair cross-reference" representation type.
