Accessories placed on a wire harness, terminal strip definition, parts (devices) and pins can be exchanged between EPLAN Electric P8 and EPLAN Harness proD. Accessories can be placed graphically or non-graphically from the EPLAN import panel in EPLAN Harness proD. The parent part and its graphically placed accessories retain master / slave relation. If you move / rotate the parent part, graphically placed accessories are moved / rotated within the parent part. However, if you move / rotate the graphically placed accessories, the parent part does not move / rotate with it. In EPLAN import panel accessories are displayed under the parent part and are indicated by an icon. When a part is placed from the EPLAN import panel with a graphical accessory, the part is placed first and the graphical accessory placement follows.

Part allocation in EPLAN Electric P8

It is highly recommended to properly assign Part allocation in the Parts tab in the properties dialog of a device in EPLAN Electric P8 .

Any entry in the Parts tab that is entered on a second row and further below is an accessory in EPLAN Harness proD regardless of whether the Part allocation is a Main part or Accessories.

However, for wires and cable wires accessories, the Part allocation must be Accessories in order for the accessories to be synchronized to EPLAN Harness proD at all.

In the case where the first row in the Parts tab contains a part number and at the same time its Part allocation is set to Accessories, the part number is not synchronized to EPLAN Harness proD at all. In this case the part is a rapid prototype in EPLAN Harness proD.

When the hpdex file is synchronized from EPLAN Harness proD back to EPLAN Electric P8, the Part allocation is changed to Accessories for entries on the second row and below in the Parts tab. However, for wire terminals placed on connections as accessories, the Part (source) / Part (target) allocation remains unchanged.

Cavity seals, cavity plugs

Cavity seals and cavity plugs are placed onto a pin in EPLAN Harness proD. Those parts are synchronized to EPLAN Electric P8 as pin accessories: In EPLAN Electric P8, open the Parts tab of the pin properties. Cavity seals and cavity plugs are displayed in the Part number column of the list, with their Part allocation property being Accessories.

If cavity seals and cavity plugs have a wire harness assigned and the wire harness is set to be synchronized to EPLAN Electric P8, they are also displayed in the Wire harness navigator as Accessories below the particular device and pin.

Cavity seals and cavity plugs are synchronized both ways as described above.

Wire terminals

Wire terminals can be placed onto wire ends in EPLAN Harness proD. Wire terminals are synchronized to EPLAN Electric P8 connections. They are displayed in the Part number column in the Parts tab of the properties of connection definition points. The wire terminal placed onto the End1 wire property in EPLAN Harness proD has the Part allocation property Part (source) in EPLAN Electric P8; the wire terminal placed onto the End2 wire property has the Part allocation property Part (target).

If wire terminals have an assigned wire harness and the wire harness is set to be synchronized to EPLAN Electric P8, they are also displayed in the Wire harness navigator below the particular connection or cable as Part (source) or Part (target).

Wire terminals are synchronized both ways as described above.

Library part accessories

The following accessories of parts can be placed graphically: all parts which have 3D graphics in EPLAN Harness proD, except for paths and graphical wire terminals. Both the graphical and non-graphical accessories are placed under the parent part node in Workspace / Workdesk tree view. If you delete the parent part, both the graphical and non-graphical accessories are deleted as well.

Wire harness accessories

The following accessories of a wire harness can be placed graphically: surface protections, leading parts, cable tie, label. Wire harness accessories are not placed during the wire harness placement. Accessories of a wire harness can be placed all at once by clicking Place all. Alternatively, each wire harness accessory can be placed individually. Only non-graphically placed wire harness accessories are deleted with the wire harness.

Terminal strip accessories

The following accessories of a terminal strip can be placed graphically: all parts with 3D graphics except paths and graphical wire terminal. When using the Place all function for a terminal strip, all accessories of the terminal strip and terminals are automatically placed and aligned. Alternatively, each accessory can be placed individually. Both the graphical and non-graphical accessories of a terminal strip are placed under the terminal strip node in Workspace / Workdesk tree view.

Black box accessories

Accessories of device(s) inside the black box are synchronized to EPLAN Harness proD.

Graphical and non-grahical accessory

By default the check-box Place accessory graphically / non-graphically is activated for objects which can be placed as a graphical accessory in EPLAN import panel. Different objects imported from EPLAN Electric P8 can have different type of objects as a graphical accessory:

• Wire harness, terminal strip have the following objects available as a graphical accessory: surface protections, label, cable tie.
• Connectable objects (connectors, terminals, special electrical components...) have the following objects available as a graphical accessory: connectable objects, special electrical components, parts, leading parts.
• Cables, cable wires, wires have the following object available as a graphical accessory: Label.
