Dialog Settings: Smart connect

Use this dialog to specify the settings for interruption points that are inserted automatically when cutting and pasting schematic elements if the Smart connect is enabled.

Overview of the main dialog elements:

The dialog contains the following tabs:

  • Electrical engineering
  • Fluid power
  • Process engineering.

By default, different interruption point symbols are set for the different trades "Electrical engineering", "Fluid power", and "Process engineering". As a result, depending on the page type of the page on which the cut schematic elements are pasted, different interruption point symbols are used.

Each tab contains the following fields:

Interruption point symbol:

Select from this drop-down list a scheme for the interruption point symbol. EPLAN supplies you with different schemes and different interruption points for this purpose. Click [...] to open the Settings: Interruption points for Smart connect dialog, where you can create or edit an interruption point scheme.

Group box Interruption point DT

Use this group box to specify the settings for assigning the displayed DT at the interruption points generated automatically by smart connect.

Notes:

  • The DT of the automatically generated interruption points is displayed with a preceding sign if the Set preceding sign setting is activated for interruption points (command path: File > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Device > DT).
  • The settings in the Interruption point DT group box are also used for the Find new DT function. This function is available to you in the property dialog for interruption points in the popup menu of the Displayed DT field.

Minimum number of digits:

The value in this field defines the minimum number of digits to be used. Longer values are displayed in their full length. Only positive numeric values are permitted. A value of zero means that the field width is variable.

Filler character:

You can define a padding character here. The value is padded with this character if the minimum number of digits is larger than the width of the value. A padding character cannot be entered for a variable number of digits (entry of "0" in the Minimum number of digits field).

Use alphanumeric counter:

If this check box is selected the alphanumeric counter is used. If not, a numerical counter is used.

Alphanumeric counter:

When using the alphanumeric counter specify the characters here that are allowed to be used by the counter. Only alphanumeric characters are allowed.

Alphanumeric counters are sorted by character from left to right (in the same manner as Excel columns). If you have specified, for example, the characters "AKS", counting proceeds as follows: A, K, S, AA, AK, AS, KA, ..., AAA, AAK, AAS, AKA ..., AAAA, AAAK, ...
