Tab Placement (connection numbering)

In this tab you specify the frequency of connection definition point placements for one connection.

Overview of the main dialog elements:

Symbol (graphic) group box

This group box shows the symbol that is placed on the connection definition point. Here you can assign a different symbol variant or a different symbol to the connection definition point.

Number / name:

This field displays the symbol number and name of the current symbol. Click [...] to open the Symbol selection dialog and select a different symbol if necessary.

If available, a preview of the symbol is shown in the adjacent field.

Group box Number of placements

Here you specify how often connection definition points can be placed.

On every individual section:

If this option has been selected, a connection definition point is placed on every individual section of a connection (centered on the section). No connection definition points are placed on sections through which several connections pass.

Once per connection:

If this option has been selected, a connection definition point is placed on the graphically first individual section of a connection (centered on the section). Which section is graphically the first one is determined by the reporting direction of the plot frame used.

Once per page:

If this option has been selected, a connection definition point is placed on the graphically first individual section on the page (centered on the section). Which section is graphically the first one is determined by the reporting direction of the plot frame used.

If a connection runs across several pages, the connection designation can thus be displayed on each page.

At the beginning and end of the connection:

If this option has been selected, a connection definition point is placed on the graphically first and graphically last individual section. Which section is graphically the first or last one is determined by the reporting direction of the plot frame used. The connection definition points are placed near the source or target function.

Notes:

  • No connection definition points are placed on sections through which several connections pass. The connections still have a designation.
  • The sequence in which the sections of a connection are passed through for the purpose of placing the connection definition points is taken from the reporting direction of the plot frame and is independent of source and target.
  • If a section already has a connection definition point that can carry a connection designation, no further connection definition point will be placed on this section. (You specify the data that can be entered in the property dialog of the connection definition point via the Valid data property.)
  • Once per page and Once per connection settings limit the placement of connection definition points to one per page or connection if a connection definition point that can possess a connection designation is already on any section of the connection.
  • If there is already a connection definition point that cannot carry a connection designation located in the exact position (centered in the section) where a connection definition point is to be placed, the existing definition point will be changed so that it can carry data.

Align placements with each other:

If this check box is selected, connection definition points are aligned horizontally or vertically with one another on sections if the following conditions are met:

  • The sections run parallel.
  • The spacing between sections is always the same.
  • The sections have a common coordinate area (in the X direction for connections running horizontally, and in the Y direction for connections running vertically).

The sections that meet these criteria make up a group, within which the connection definition points are aligned to each other. Thus the parallel sections that have different spacing are not recognized as a group. The connection definition points on these sections are not aligned to each other either.

Normally, the connection definition points are aligned at the first graphical connection definition point within the group. If this is not possible, because the connection definition point is outside the common coordinate area, the next connection definition point of the group is considered. If none of the connection definition points is within the common coordinate area, the connection definition points in this coordinate area are moved.

If the check box is deselected, then connection definition points are generally not aligned with one another.
