Manually entered or translated text can often overlap other text or graphics. Here it is useful for the line size of all text to be modifiable through the use of a text box.
A sequence of words initially creates line breaks automatically: The characters that can no longer be displayed are automatically broken into further lines, whereby only full words are taken into account, i.e., displayed in the next line. This form of automatic breaking occurs when an empty space or punctuation mark exists between the words.
Words are only split internally when this is "forced" by insertion of a hyphen.
Line breaks in a text box occur under the following rules:
- The line break operators "hyphen" and "space" are used.
- If a manual line break exists in the text then this is also taken into account.
Example:Text box 21 characters wide, a sentence is entered:

Here it can be seen that two words must be broken. The line break occurs after entry of a hyphen.
If lines are not to be automatically broken at separators, then line breaking occurs as follows:

To allow multi-line text in forms, special setting options are provided under the Alignment box property on the Format tab in the Properties dialog for texts / placeholder text.
