Placing Cable Ties

A cable tie is a device used to tie together a bundle of wires.

Cable ties can be used on bundles (including those with surface protections). They inherit the Wire harness ID property of the bundle which they are placed on.

Cable ties can be placed on an object in a predefined number or with a predefined distance between them by using the Repeat cable tie function. This function is available after clicking on an already placed cable tie. Selecting the (Repeat cable tie) button or the identically named command from the Tools menu, you can choose in the command bar whether to enter the number of cable ties you want to create on the selected object or whether to specify the distance between the cable ties, with the other value being automatically calculated by the system. If you enter both values, the last-entered one will override the first.

  1. Select the Insert > Place cable tie menu items or the button on the toolbar.

The Part navigator dialog is opened.
  2. Select the desired cable tie and click [OK].

The Part navigator dialog is closed.

If a suitable object had been selected before clicking the Place cable tie button, the cable tie will be placed upon clicking [OK].
  3. Place the cable tie by clicking on a supported object, in this case a wire.

All selectable objects are highlighted when you move the mouse over them.
  4. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Place cable tie button again, if desired.

Place cable tie in workdesk with specified distance from control point

A cable tie can be placed in the workdesk with a specified distance from an existing control point. In case the cable tie is placed on a cable control point, it can only be placed on the particular cable layer on which the existing control point is located. If the existing cable control point divides cable layers, the cable tie can be placed only on either of the layers.

If the cable tie is placed on a bundle control point, it can only be placed on the particular bundle segment on which the existing control point is located. The boundaries of the bundle segment are confined by the bundle's start / end control points (i.e. the control points where the bundle starts / ends or divides the bundle and the wire / cable / surface protection / other bundle) or split point (i.e. the control point where the bundle is branched).

In case the cable tie is placed on a ribbon cable control point, the cable tie can be placed either on the ribbon cable or its branch if the ribbon cable is branched.

  1. Select the Insert > Place cable tie menu items or the button on the toolbar.

The Part navigator dialog is opened.
  2. Select the desired cable tie and click [OK].

The Part navigator dialog is closed.
  3. Left-click on the control point of a wire, cable, bundle, surface protection, etc. to place the cable tie.
  4. Select the direction of the cable tie placement (either side of the control point path).
  5. Enter the Distance value into the command bar and press [Enter].
