Terminals

A terminal is a type of connectable object that can be defined to have multiple levels. For this, a Level property can be assigned to the individual pins of terminals or pins of grouped pins in the 3D window or the Detailed pin settings section of the Terminal panel.

To gain a better understanding of how pin's Level, Connection point designations and Terminal designation are to be assigned for a terminal in EPLAN Harness proD see the example below:

In EPLAN Harness proD Studio terminals have an additional property called Terminal designation. This property can hold multiple values, one for each level of the terminal. These values correspond to terminal designations of pins on each level. Changing the terminal designation on one level will also change the terminal designation of all pins on that level to that terminal designation.

For this reason it is a good practice (and strongly encouraged!) to create terminals where all pins that share the same level also have the same terminal designation. It is possible to give each pin a unique terminal designation, however this will be overridden in the studio if the terminal designation is changed. It may also cause problems when working with this terminal inside a terminal strip. For more information on how terminals behave within a terminal strip please refer to the Terminal Strip topic.
