Creating Ellipses through 3 Points

An ellipse is a closed, symmetrical, oval-shaped curve. An ellipse by three points is defined by three points which are intersected by the curve. To create an ellipse through three points, you can use the mouse and the keyboard. Both techniques can be combined.

Using the mouse

  1. Click the Ellipse through 3 points button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the first point (starting point of the major axis) by clicking on the desired location in the working window.
  3. Determine the second point (end point of the major axis) in the same way.
  4. Finish creating the ellipse by moving the mouse, thereby defining the minor axis, and clicking a third time.
  5. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Ellipse through 3 points button again, if desired.

Using the command bar

  1. Click the Ellipse through 3 points button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the X and Y coordinates of the first point (starting point of the major axis) in the command bar and confirm with [OK].
  3. Determine the second point (end point of the major axis) in the same way.
  4. Determine the length of the minor half-axis.
  5. Click [OK] to complete the ellipse.
  6. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Ellipse through 3 points button again, if desired.
