The development of a modular system can in principle be accomplished using two different methods. A closer look at the activities involved in modular system development reveals that three levels of modeling activity can be identified. These are: mechatronic, discipline and document.
In general, there are two distinct types of modular development. These are model-driven development on the one hand and resource-driven development on the other. Finally, the two methods differ procedurally, i.e. in terms of the order of the steps to be performed.
