Using the Material Editor

In Harness proD Library, material may be added to any type of surface protection and, via the properties panel, to imported 3D files (such as *.stp files and other formats) as well as to library features such as cuboid, cone, torus, sphere, cylinder, tube, extrusion, and revolved extrusion.

In the Harness proD Studio workspace / workdesk, material may be added to existing bundles, parts, backshells, connector housings, and imported 3D files (*.stp files and others).

The material is used in the workspace / workdesk when the component is placed. How the colors and textures are displayed, depends on the current view.

If you want to remove the assigned material from an object, click [Reset] to revert any changes.

  1. Select the Style library > Create material menu items or click the button on the toolbar to start the material editor.
  2. Enter the name of the new material.

The preview is updated according to the changes made in the dialog.
  3. In the Material properties group box determine the basic material color (Diffuse color field), the color of the surrounding environment (Ambient color field), the color emitted from the component (Emissive color field), the reflective stripe / spot color, depending on the shape of the component (Specular color field), and the size of the specular color spot (Specular exponent field).
  4. In the Transparency field you can determine the transparency of the material.
  5. In the Textures drop-down list click [Browse] to add an image, or click [Delete] to remove an existing image.
  6. For the texture define the main color of the surface (Diffuse map field), and activate either the Normal map or Reflection map setting. Normal mapping is a technique used for faking the lighting of bumps and dents, while reflection mapping adds a touch of reflection to an otherwise non-reflective surface.
  7. Click [OK] to save the changes and close the material editor or click [Cancel] to close the wizard without saving the changes.
