Creating Coordinate System

A coordinate system is an auxiliary object. It can be used to align two or more objects in EPLAN Harness proD Studio by using the Create coordinate system function. It can also be used in EPLAN Harness proD Library for placing objects. To create a coordinate system, you can use the mouse and the keyboard. Both techniques can be combined.

Note:

When placing objects, you can choose to place them freely, on a key point, anywhere on a particular surface, or anywhere on a particular plane. You can also combine these options, e.g. you can choose to place an object on a particular plane and then on a particular key point on that plane. Just use the corresponding button or shortcut. See Construction aids for details.

Using the mouse

  1. Click the Create coordinate system button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the center of the coordinate system by clicking on the desired location in the 3D working window.
  3. Specify the X axis vector by moving the mouse and click when you are satisfied with the position.
  4. Specify the rotation around the X axis in the same way (if you cannot move in the Y direction, move your view in the working window by dragging the middle mouse button and then try again).
  5. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Create coordinate system button again, if desired.

Using command bar and mouse

  1. Click the Create coordinate system button on the toolbar.
  2. Determine the X, Y and Z coordinates of the center of the coordinate system in the command bar and confirm with [OK].
  3. Determine the X, Y and Z rotations and confirm with [OK].
  4. Repeat the command by using the space bar or clicking the Create coordinate system button again, if desired.

Properties

Existing coordinate systems can be edited in the properties panel. The properties common to all 3D objects are described in the 3D Properties Panel section of this help file.
