Wire Terminals

Wire terminals are conductive wire termination devices designed to handle one or more conductors and to be inserted into a connectable object or be attached to a board, bus, or block. Within EPLAN Harness proD, wire terminals can be placed non-graphically on the end of a wire connected to a pin or directly onto a pin or they can be placed graphically directly into the workspace / workdesk as a stand-alone component.

In the wire terminal-specific properties you can determine the wire terminal's characteristics. The following properties are available:

Property

Description

Gender

You can determine the gender of the wire terminal as Not set, Male, or Female. This information is evaluated in reports.

Wire

Use the Cross-section (CSA / AWG) entry to determine the range of the wire cross-sections for which the wire terminal is suitable. This is a mandatory property.
Activate the Insulation crimp required check box to determine that the AutoAttach parts command attaches the wire terminals based on both cross-section and outside diameter of the wire and that the Attached parts' size task in Studio will check these values. If the check box is not activated, the Outside diameter option is disabled for the wire terminal and the AutoAttach parts command attaches the wire terminals based only on the cross-section of the wire. The Attached parts' size task in Studio will then also only check this value.

Outside diameter

Mandatory property. Range of the wire outside diameters for which the wire terminal is suitable.

Fixed extra length

Length of the wire segment which is inserted in the wire terminal.

Stripping length

Length of the wire segment which the wire terminal requires to be stripped.

Base material

Material which the wire terminal is made of.

Coating

Thin metallic coating material applied to the wire terminal's base material.

Pull-off force

Force of the wire terminal-wire joint.

With protection

Defines whether the wire terminal contains any protective parts.

Crimp applicators

This section allows to assign crimp applicators suitable for crimping the wire terminal. A crimp applicator for the wire terminal can be selected in the wire terminal properties in both workspace and workdesk and then be listed in wire, cable and special components reports and also in the nailboard-specific wire lists.

A crimp applicator can be added to the list by clicking the [Add] button and selecting the desired part from the part navigator. Use the arrow buttons to change the order (priority) of the applicators. Remove an item by clicking [Del] or via popup menu.

Wire terminals are created with a 3D window where an optional graphical representation and a pin can be assigned to it. Doing so allows to insert the wire terminal into workspace / workdesk graphically. 2D windows can also be added to represent the wire terminal in nailboard / cable drawing.
