Terminal Strip

Terminal Strip

A terminal strip is a non-graphical entity used to group multiple terminals together. Once terminals are part of a terminal strip they can be moved and rotated as a single object. Terminals within a terminal strip are considered to be constituent parts of a terminal strip and in part inherit its name.

Creating a terminal strip and adding terminals to it

  1. To create a terminal strip select Tools > Add new terminal strip or the button on the main toolbar.

New terminal strip is created and visible in tree view.

  2. Add terminals to the terminal strip by selecting Add to terminal strip from the terminals' popup menu or by selecting Edit > Add to terminal strip.

If only one terminal strip exists, the terminals will be added to it automatically.

  3. Click on a terminal strip in the tree view to assign the terminals to it.

To remove terminals from a terminal strip select Remove from terminal strip from the terminals' popup menu or by selecting Edit > Remove from terminal strip.

Terminal strip position versus terminal positions

A terminal strip will adopt the position of the first terminal that is assigned to it. Adding more terminals to the terminal strip will no longer change the terminal strip's position.

Moving and rotating a terminal strip will also move and rotate its terminals with the terminal strip position serving as their common pivot.

To adjust the relative position of the pivot to the terminals select the Move to center button in the terminal strip's properties panel. This will calculate and move the terminal strip position to the overall center of all the terminals it contains.

Alternatively the terminals can each be individually moved and rotated manually with respect to the terminal strip pivot.

Terminal device position

Terminals assigned to a terminal strip have an additional property called Terminal device position. This property is used to denote the relative position of a terminal along a terminal strip and must be unique, i.e. no other terminal within the same terminal strip should have the same terminal device position.
