Searching within the EPLAN Data Portal

The EPLAN Data Portal offers you various possibilities for searching for parts.

Quick search

  1. To quick search for a device, you enter a suitable search text directly into the data entry field of the toolbar.
  2. Subsequently press the key or click .
  3. The fields Part number, Type number, Order number and Designation will then be searched for the text entered.

If suitable parts are found in the list of parts, the EPLAN Data Portal automatically switches to the list of parts. The found texts are highlighted. If no matching parts are found, then a message is displayed and the Search dialog is opened. Here you can define more detailed search criteria.

The search text entered can also be only a part of the term to be searched for: If you filter by the text "BUS", for example, then parts containing the text "PROFIBUS" will also be displayed. Thus, the search logic during text input corresponds to the general syntax as known from search engines on the Internet ("+" for an AND operation, space for an OR operation, terms in quotes "" for a search for a specific character string). Please compare the detailed examples below.

Extended search

Clicking in the toolbar of the EPLAN Data Portal opens the Extended search. You can search in this dialog for the Basis data, Barcodes and Tags listed above and for parts descriptions.

If you enter values into multiple search fields, then these criteria are evaluated as AND entries in the search.

Example:

You have entered the search terms 1734-ACNR for the Type number and Module for the Designation. The program searches for parts whose Type number contains the character string 1734-ACNR and whose Designation contains the term Module.

An entry of several values within one of the search fields Part number, Type number, Order number, and Designation - separated from each other by a blank - is evaluated as OR operation.

Example:

You have entered the search terms Adapter Module for the Designation. The program searches for parts whose Designation either contains the term Adapter or the term Module or both terms.

An entry of several search terms within one of the search fields Part number, Type number, and Designation - each with a preceding "+" character - is evaluated as AND operation. (Note that there must be a space character between <+search term> and <+search term>!)

Example:

You have entered the search terms +Adapter +Module +Control for the Designation. The program searches for parts whose Designation contains all three terms at least once, independent of the sequence and position.

If the plus character is to be searched itself, it must be entered in quotes.

Example:

Adapter "+Module" will find all parts that contain the term Adapter or +Module (or both) in the specified property.

Terms with several words which are to be searched for exactly are to be written in quotes.

Example:

"Controlnet Adapter Module" will find all parts whose property contains the term Controlnet Adapter Module.

If the quotation mark is to be searched itself, it must be entered twice.

Example:

Adapter +6"" will find all parts that contain the two character strings Adapter and 6" in the specified property.

Note:

You do not need to pay attention to upper-case / lower-case spelling when entering search terms.
