Importing Bundles

The Import bundles function allows for easily creating bundles in the workspace / workdesk environment.

Note:

For the special characters to be imported correctly, the text file must be UTF-8 encoded.

Importing bundles from a *.txt or *.csv source file allows for setting the bundle paths accurately.

The text files for importing bundles must consist of two parts:

In addition, a so-called "shared point" can be defined in the source file.

An example of a text file for importing bundles can be found in the Demo\Demo_Studio_Import directory of the EPLAN Harness proD installation folder.

  1. Select the File > Import bundles menu items or the button on the toolbar.

The Import bundles wizard is opened.
  2. Click [...] in the Source file field.

A file selection dialog is opened.
  3. Browse to the desired location, select the desired file, and click [Open].

The file selection dialog is closed.
  4. Select a template file by proceeding in the same way.
  5. Click [Next].
  6. In the next step of the Import bundles wizard you determine the data selection for control points, i.e. you define the separator, which rows are to be ignored in the source file, and which columns and rows are to be used for the imported control points of the bundles.
  7. Enter a character into the Ignore rows starting with field so that rows in the source file starting with this character are ignored during the import.
  8. Determine the number of columns and rows respectively to specify which columns and rows are to be ignored during the import. The fields are defaulted to the numbers of columns and rows actually used in the source file.

The Preview area of the dialog displays the columns according to the settings made.
  9. Click [Next].
  10. In the next step of the Import bundles wizard you specify the column mapping for control points.

The Data source table displays the current settings: The ID column specifies the names of the control points in the tree view. The X, Y and Z columns define the coordinates of each control point in the workspace / workdesk working window.
  11. Activate the Update changed objects check box if the positions of existing control points are to be updated according to the X, Y and Z coordinates specified in the source file. Any new control points which were added to existing bundles remain unchanged, and new bundles are imported as specified in the source file. If deactivated, only the position of control points of existing bundles is updated, while any new control points remain unchanged and no new bundles are imported.
  12. Activate the Case-sensitive check box to update control points if their names match the capital and small letters of the control point names specified in the source file.
  13. Click [Next].
  14. In the next step of the Import bundles wizard you determine the data selection for bundles, i.e. you define the separator, which rows are to be ignored in the source file, and which columns and rows are to be used for the imported bundles.
  15. Click [Next].
  16. In the next step of the Import bundles wizard you specify the column mapping for bundles.

The Data source table displays the current settings: The ID column specifies the names of the bundles in the tree view. The Color column specifies the color of the imported bundles. If left empty, imported bundles have the default color as specified in the workspace or workdesk settings. The Starting point column specifies the starting point of the bundles.
  17. Activate the Delete objects not in list check box to remove existing bundles (bundles and surface protections such as looms, wrap tapes, flexible tubing, etc.) from the workspace / workdesk working window.
  18. Activate the Update changed objects check box if existing bundles in the workspace / workdesk working window are to be updated. In this case, the control points of existing bundles are repositioned in the workspace / workdesk working window as specified in the source file. Any new control points which were added to bundles and are not specified in the source file are removed. In addition, if the color of a bundle was changed in the source, the color of the existing bundle is changed, too.
  19. Click the Save as template link if the current settings of the wizard are to be saved as a template file.

The Save as dialog is opened for you to browse to a suitable location and assign a name for the template file to be created.
  20. Click [Save].

The Save as dialog is closed, and the template file is saved at the specified location and under the entered name, with the *.hxbit file extension automatically added.
  21. Click [Start].

The Import result step of the Import bundles wizard displays information about the actions taken during bundle import (whether they were successfully imported, updated, etc.).
  22. Click [Finish] to close the wizard.
