Protected Segments

Similarly to functions, segments can be protected against changes and deleting. This is possible using the device protection and / or the change protection.

Device protection for segments

In order to protect device data predefined at a segment, you can assign the Device protection property to the segment via the Configure protection dialog. All the properties that are assigned through the part (and the function templates stored at the function) are thus protected. However, it remains possible to change the remaining segment properties.

The project setting Device protection when creating functions is used to automatically assign device protection to functions with a planning object.

The device protection has the following effects on segments:

  • The assigned parts cannot be changed. This means that a device selection or part selection or actions such as "Exchange part", "Edit part" and "Add part" cannot be carried out.
  • Function templates cannot be assigned to a segment with a device protection. The corresponding tab is grayed out in the properties dialog of the segment.
  • Segments with device protection cannot be deleted in the pre-planning navigator. Superior and subordinate segments of a protected segment can also not be deleted.
  • Segments with device protection cannot be moved to a different position in the tree structure of the pre-planning navigator. The structure can also not be changed through graphical editing.
  • Only the placement of the segment is deleted during deleting in the graphical editor.

Change Protection for Segments

Segments can be protected against changes through the change protection. The change protection is carried out automatically by the program at some functionalities in the EPLAN Platform (for example when a subproject is filed off). However, you can use the Configure protection dialog to assign a manual change protection specifically to one or more pages, functions or segments.

The project setting Change protection when creating pages can be used to automatically assign change protection to schematic pages that were generated on the basis of the macros stored at the planning objects.

The change protection has the following effects on segments:

  • The segment is protected with all its properties. This means that not only the parts data are protected, but rather that all the properties of the segment can no longer be changed and that the segment cannot be deleted or moved. Changes through the pre-planning are possible by using the functionality Update detailed planning.
  • In addition, all the segments below a protected segment are also protected automatically. No further segments can be inserted below a protected segment.
  • The Change protection (hierarchical) property indicates whether an object itself is protected or whether a superior segment is protected. This property exists not only at segments, but also at all other objects that can be protected by a superior segment, for example at interruption points or graphical element.
