Preview images can be added to the Eplan master data (such as forms, plot frames, macros, symbols). These preview images are displayed in the Windows Explorer preview window and are also used for functionalities in the Eplan Cloud.
The master data supplied by Eplan as of Version 2027 already have preview images. Preview images can be added to master data from older Eplan versions or own user-defined master data as follows:
- With the command in the ribbon: The dialog of the same name is opened by means of the Generate preview images command. Here, you can select specific master data directories and specifically add preview images to the associated master data.
- After the program start: If the Check on startup whether master data without preview images exists setting is activated in the Settings: Preview images dialog, a prompt for the generation of preview images is displayed after the start. If you answer [Yes] to this prompt, you can then use the subsequent Generate preview images dialog to add preview images to the master data.
The generation of the preview images is started in a background process. This way you can continue working and do not have to wait until the process is completed. - When uploading master data to the Eplan Cloud and when synchronizing master data with Eplan Cloud master data: If master data without preview images is found during these processes, a prompt is displayed and you can generate preview images by means of the subsequent Generate preview images dialog.
In order for the macros, symbols, etc. to be displayed correctly in the preview images, information on layers, symbols, user-defined properties, etc. is required when generating preview images. To this purpose you have to specify when generatring a reference project that this contains information. To this purpose you can specify a default setting in the settings for the preview images in the Settings: Preview images dialog.
Note:
When creating and generating new master data, preview images are generated automatically. This affects, for example, the following actions:
- Saving macros
- Closing of edited forms, plot frames or symbol libraries in the respective editor
- Closing of projects that were not opened write-protected
