Coloring Components and Pipings with Linked Segments in the P&I Diagram

In order to recognize in the P&I diagram which containers, PCT loops, pipings etc. are linked with segments in the pre-planning you can color these components and objects in the P&I diagram. This way these associated structures are detected in the diagram and possible corrections can be identified more easily.

Preconditions:

You have opened a project containing pre-planning data.
You have opened a page of the "P&I diagram" type.
You have placed process engineering symbols that are connected via autoconnect lines on this page.

Select the following commands: Tab Pre-planning > Command group General > Navigator.
Mark the segment whose subordinate structures you want to make visible in the P&I diagram.
Select the Properties popup menu item.
In the property dialog of the segment in the property table select the property Color for P&I diagram.
Open the Color selection dialog with [...] and select the desired color there.
Select the following commands: File > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Pre-planning > General.
Activate the With assigned segment check box in the Color components and pipings in P&I diagram group box in the Settings: P&I diagram dialog.

After you have closed the settings dialog with [OK], the objects with linked segments are displayed in the selected color.

The designations and descriptions of the segments for which a color was specified with the Color for P&I diagram property, are displayed in the selected color in the pre-planning navigator.

Tip:

Activate the In pipings (without assigned segment) check box to additionally color the components that belong to such a piping but are without an assigned segment in the pre-planning.

Note:

If the check box With assigned segment is deactivated, neither the objects with linked segments nor the additional components in the pipings without link to the pre-planning are colored.

Hide components for pipings with linked segments

You can also use the Layer for color and visibility property at the segments to color components and pipings with linked segments in the P&I diagram. This property can be used to hide the components and placed PCT loops located at a piping, and thus structure the P&I diagram clearly.

Preconditions:

You have opened a project containing pre-planning data.
You have opened a page of the "P&I diagram" type.
You have placed process engineering symbols that are connected via autoconnect lines on this page.
You have activated the With assigned segment and In pipings (without assigned segment) check boxes in the Color components and pipings in P&I diagram group box in the Settings: P&I diagram dialog.
You have opened the pre-planning navigator.
You have opened the layer management: Tab Tools > Command group Management > Layers.

In the pre-planning navigator, select the segment whose subordinate structures are linked to a piping in the P&I diagram.
Select the Properties popup menu item.
In the property dialog of the segment, select the Layer for color and visibility property in the property table.
Click [...] in the Value column of the property table for this property.
Select the desired layer in the subsequent Layer selection dialog.
Close the properties dialog with [OK].

The designation and description of the segment for which a layer was selected via the Layer for color and visibility property are displayed in the color of the selected layer in the pre-planning navigator.
In the layer management tree, select the layer that you have selected for the Layer for color and visibility property.
In the table on the right, deactivate the check box in the Visible column for this layer.

The graphic and the property placements of the components in the piping are hidden, but the piping itself remains visible.

When the color is transferred, the colors of the components and pipings are adapted - but the colors of the property placements at the piping are retained.

The settings of the layer such as Visible, Print and Background affect the graphic and the property placements of the components, but not the piping itself. In order for a piping to be additionally hidden, the same layer with deactivated Visible setting must be assigned to the piping definition point in the Connection graphic tab.

If one of the colors "Background", "Inverse to background" or "Watermark" is selected for a layer, this has an effect not only on the graphic of components and pipings but also on the property placements, in contrast to the normal colors.

Containers are also hidden by default when they are the target of a piping. If this is not desired, a different layer must be assigned to the associated segment via the Layer for color and visibility property.

Note:

If a color setting was made at a segment using the Layer for color and visibility property, this setting takes priority over the setting made via the Color for P&I diagram property both at the same segment and at the subordinate segments.
