Simplified Handling of Wire Termination Processing

Determining the wire termination processing and the matching parts from the connection point pattern

The handling of wire termination processing has been changed in Version 2027. The wire termination processing and the matching parts for the wire termination processing are now determined from the Wire termination processing and Wire termination processing: Part number properties in the connection point pattern and transferred to the connection during routing. The previous procedure of defining the connection category and wire termination processing in the company and project settings will only continue to be supported for compatibility reasons during a transitional period.

The permissible conductor type and the wire termination processing can now be specified for each connection point in the connection point pattern. For the "Crimp" wire termination processing, a part for wire termination processing can also be selected for each possible cross-section of a conductor type.

During routing, the wire termination processing specified in the connection point pattern is written to the Wire termination processing source / Wire termination processing target property of the connection. In addition, the matching part is determined from the connection point pattern for the "Crimp" wire termination processing depending on the connection cross-section and is written with the property Part allocation = "Part (source)" / "Part (target)" into the Parts tab of the 2D connection.

The parts for wire termination processing can be output together with the connection parts in reports, such as connection lists or bills of materials.

Benefit:

The new approach ensures greater standardization and simplification. It is no longer necessary to maintain extensive lists with user-defined connection categories and assigned wire termination processing in the company and project settings or to specify parts for wire termination processing manually at each connection. Instead, the wire termination processing and, depending on the cross-section of the routed connections, suitable parts for the "Crimp" wire termination processing are determined via the connection point patterns of the parts during routing.

The following modifications have been carried out in Eplan:

  • The Wire termination processing, Wire termination processing: Part number and Permissible conductor types columns have been added to the Connection points tab of the connection point pattern.
  • For connection parts the conductor class can and should now be specified in the new Conductor class property.
  • The parts management supports parts for wire termination processing (conductor end sleeves, cable lugs, crimp contacts) with the following new properties:
    - Conductor end sleeve: Suitable for short-circuit proof conductors (ID 26668)
    - Conductor end sleeve: Total length (ID 26665)
    - Conductor end sleeve: Sleeve length (ID 26664)
    - Conductor end sleeve: Flag marker exists (ID 26667)
    - Bolt thread dimension (metric) (ID 26670)
    - Crimp contact: Type of contact (ID 26671)
    - Crimp contact: Diameter (plug) (ID 26673)
    - Crimp contact: Contact version (ID 26672)
    - Insulation (ID 26669)
    - Insulation exists (ID 26666)
    - Conductor cross-section (ID 26120)
    - Conductor cross-section, min. (ID 26658)
    - Conductor cross-section, max. (ID 26659)
    - Conductor cross-section AWG (ID 26660)
    - Conductor cross-section AWG, min. (ID 26661)
    - Conductor cross-section AWG, max. (ID 26662)
  • The new check runs 026059, 026060 and 026061 check during routing whether the conductor class of a connection part corresponds to the permissible conductor type specified in the connection point pattern of a source or target part, and whether a wire termination processing and a part for the wire termination processing could be determined from the connection point pattern.

Improved manufacturing data export for the Komax - Zeta wire fabrication machine

The wire termination processing has also been improved for the export of manufacturing data for the Komax - Zeta wire fabrication machine. To this purpose, the Wire termination processing: Part number column has been added in the export scheme on the Wire termination processing tab (command path: File > Settings > Company > Wire fabrication > Komax - Zeta). Here, parts for wire termination processing can be selected from the parts management. Subsequently a machine command and a "TerminalKey" can be assigned to each part.

Benefit:

Which machine command and which "TerminalKey" is exported now depends not only on the connection cross-section and on the wire termination processing, but also on the part that is selected in the new Wire termination processing: Part number column. This makes it possible to export different "TerminalKeys" for identical connection cross-sections.

Effects on old projects

Settings for connection category and wire termination processing that were defined in the company and project settings in existing projects will continue to be supported for compatibility reasons during a transitional period. However, the value in the new Wire termination processing column in the Connection points tab of the connection point pattern has priority and is transferred to the connection if defined. If parts for wire termination processing already exist at the connection, these are overwritten by the parts determined from the connection point pattern.

In short: If both the Wire termination processing column and the Wire termination processing: Part number column of the connection point pattern contain the "Undefined" value, the old procedure continues to be applied. Otherwise you should consistently use the new properties to avoid mixing of the procedures.

If no parts are selected in the new Wire termination processing: Part number column in the export scheme for the Komax - Zeta wire fabrication machine, the export is carried out as before. The machine command and the "TerminalKey" are exported depending on the connection cross-section and the wire termination processing.
