When routing connections in the layout space, information about wire termination processing as well as the suitable parts for wire termination processing, such as conductor end sleeves, cable shoes or crimp contacts, are also transferred to the connections. This information is determined from the connection point pattern of source or target parts and can be used for wire fabrication.
The parts for wire termination processing can be output together with the connection parts in reports, such as connection lists or bills of materials.
Configuration of the connection point pattern
The following properties in the Connection points tab of the connection point pattern allow the determination of the wire termination processing and the matching part for the wire termination processing for each connection point:
- Permissible conductor types
- Min. cross-section / Max. cross-section
- Max. number of connections
- Wire termination processing
- Wire termination processing: Part number
Further information about the properties is available in the section "Tab Connection points (connection point pattern)".
Selection of suitable parts for wire termination processing
In addition to wire termination processing, you can select a suitable part for wire termination processing in the connection point pattern for each possible cross-section of a connection point. Depending on the cross-section of the connection, the matching part for wire termination processing can be determined from this preselection during routing.
In the Part selection dialog, you can find suitable parts for wire termination processing on the basis of specific part properties.
- For conductor end sleeves: Conductor cross-section in mm² or AWG, Conductor end sleeve: Sleeve length, Conductor end sleeve: Total length
- For cable lug: Conductor cross-section, min., Conductor cross-section, max.
- For crimp contacts: Crimp contact: Type of contact, Crimp contact: Diameter (plug), Crimp contact: Contact version
Specification of permissible conductor type and conductor class
To ensure that a part for wire termination processing is determined from the connection point pattern that matches both the connection point and the wire to be connected in cross-section, you can specify the permissible conductor type in the connection point pattern. You should then specify the cross-sectional range in the connection point pattern so that it matches both the connection point and the permissible conductor type of the wire to be connected.
The permissible conductor type can also be used to ensure that a connection part matches the connection point. For connection parts, enter the conductor class in the Conductor class property. If the conductor class corresponds to the permissible conductor type in the connection point pattern of a source or target part, the connection part matches.
Transferring wire termination processing during routing
During routing, the wire termination processing specified in the connection point pattern is written to the Wire termination processing source / Wire termination processing target property of the connection. In addition, the matching part is determined from the connection point pattern for the "Crimp" wire termination processing depending on the connection cross-section and is written with the property Part allocation = "Part (source)" / "Part (target)" into the Parts tab of the 2D connection.
Check runs
The check runs 026059, 026060 and 026061 check during routing whether the conductor class of a connection part corresponds to the permissible conductor type specified in the connection point pattern of a source or target part, and whether a wire termination processing and a part for the wire termination processing could be determined from the connection point pattern.
In addition, the check runs 026056, 026057 and 026058, check whether the cross-section of a routed connection and the number of wires connected to a connection point correspond to the cross-section range and the maximum number of connections as specified in the connection point pattern.
Note:
The wire termination processing and the matching parts are determined from the connection point pattern only as of Version 2027. Settings for connection category and wire termination processing that were defined in the company and project settings in existing projects will continue to be supported for compatibility reasons during a transitional period. However, the value in the new Wire termination processing column in the connection point pattern has priority and is transferred to the connection if defined. If parts for wire termination processing already exist at the connection, these are overwritten by the parts determined from the connection point pattern.
In short: If both the Wire termination processing column and the Wire termination processing: Part number column of the connection point pattern contain the "Undefined" value, the old procedure continues to be applied. Otherwise you should consistently use the new properties to avoid mixing of the procedures.
